LOUIS - The St. Louis Board of Aldermen meets for the last time Thursday morning until mid-September, and two attention-grabbing bills are up for final passage. The board will meet at 10:00 a.m. One of the bills addresses the open carrying of guns in the city. The other details what police must do during some interactions with citizens.Board of aldermen members passed the final wording on both bills at their meeting last week. Alderwoman Cara Spencer is sponsoring board Bill 29. It would ban people from openly carrying or displaying guns in the city without having a concealed-carry permit. Aldermen set to vote on bill to require concealed-carry permit for open carry today The legislation comes after recent situations where young people were seen openly carrying firearms downtown during events like parties. Spencer argues the bill would help get guns off the streets and would also disarm minors because most people have to be 19 years old to get a concealed carry permit in Missou...

Editor’s note: Ninth in a series previewing the Broncos’ position groups entering training camp. Today, cornerbacks. On the roster (10): Pat Surtain II, Riley Moss, Art Green, Faion Hicks, Delonte Hood, Damarri Mathis, Ja’Quan McMillian, Tremon Smith, K’Waun Williams, Essang Bassey. How many on the 53?: Five. Most impactful offseason move: Drafting Riley MossThe Broncos made an interesting move in the draft trading the No. 108 pick and a 2024 third-rounder to select Moss at 83rd overall. It remains to be seen whether the Broncos gave up too much to draft the former Iowa standout. But he has a strong chance be a key player in Denver’s secondary as a rookie. In addition to his speed and athleticism, Moss has incredible ball skills. Last season, Moss totaled 11 passes defended for the Hawkeyes. He was named the Tatum-Woodson Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year in 2021 after he recorded four interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns.Biggest question to answer in camp: Will D...

Lindsey Horan’s greatest strength has always been focusing on what she can control.Whether it was the up to four-a-day training sessions with boys teams she did on her own accord growing up in Golden, or workouts with the Colorado Rapids 2 team leading up to her second World Cup, specifically to train on natural grass, Horan has always been exacting in her methods. Now, the dedication to the craft has paid off with the pinnacle of her playing career: Captain of the United States Women’s National Team at the World Cup. Opinion: Yes, Barbie is a feminist — just don’t ask her creators

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 02:42:32 GMT

Almost 30 years ago, when I researched and wrote a history of the people and ideas that led to the creation of Barbie, I had no doubt she would be as talked about in 2023 as she was in 1959, when she first appeared. But what I never expected was the way that this plastic object, once tarred as anti-feminist, has come to be viewed as feminist, or, in any event, as an important cultural touchstone in understanding feminism. From the get-go, Barbie and her possessions reflected and shaped the marketplace, experiencing meteoric sales when her consumption patterns and activities were in harmony with the zeitgeist, and weathering blistering criticism when they were not.Barbie is in tune with the times again — at least as she appears in Greta Gerwig’s new film interpretation of her, coming out Friday. The movie’s zany, self-ironic production design suggests that Gerwig is not only well versed in feminism but also in camp, an aesthetic sensibility that values artifice, exaggeration and parody...

The CVUSD school board voted 4-1 to adopt a resolution supporting...
