(The Hill) -- Remote work became possible long before the pandemic. Many employers resisted it on a hunch that employees working from home might spend too much of their workday watching Oprah and shopping on eBay. Then came COVID-19, which launched a vast, forced experiment in telework. The results are in: As it turns out, most remote workers are not incurable slackers. Several studies suggest remote and hybrid employees actually work slightly longer hours than their office-bound colleagues, findings echoed by an avalanche of anecdotal evidence gathered from millions of teleworkers in the past three years. One of the most celebrated studies, which tracked more than 60,000 Microsoft employees over the first half of 2020, found that remote work triggered a 10 percent boost in weekly hours. AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin Community College said it and a Maryland-based non-profit will launch a partnership Monday aiming to train more nurses to fill a gap in health care in Central Texas. According to the ACC announcement, the partnership between the college and Dwyer Workforce Development will begin with the school’s certified nurse aide (CNA) program. The school said the CNA program can be completed in as little as 8 weeks. According to the announcement, students in the program, called “Dwyer Scholars,” will get the following:A personal case manager to help them through the application process and address ongoing obstacles they face. Additional training support through Workforce Solutions Capital Area and Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area, when eligible. ST. LOUIS - A violent three-vehicle crash overnight in north St. Louis left one person dead and at least one other hurt.The scene at the Riverview Boulevard and West Florissant Avenue intersection has been cleared just after five this morning. All three vehicles involved have now been towed from the scene. Accident reconstruction crews handling the investigation since it is a fatal crash.It's believe the person who was killed in the crash was driving the passenger vehicle being towed away. This is from just the past half hour or so. Cooling centers opening again as high temperatures return Police towed away the second passenger car, a Dodge Charger from the scene earlier. ST. LOUIS - Crews were at the scene of a building fire in Dutchtown Monday morning.Our Nissan Rogue Runner reporter Nic Lopez captured footage of the scene located on the 4300 block of South Compton Avenue, where the two-story four family home could be seen burning from the back. Firefighters got the call around 4:45 a.m., as a total of nine adults and 14 children were affected by the total loss of the homes. St. Louis Fire Department Captain Leon Whitener shared how the crews and families are responding. Boat runs aground at Lake of the Ozarks, strikes home "We have about 20 people who are displaced right now," Whitener said. "Crews are currently salvaging shoes and clothes and bringing it out to the residents as most residents ran out in their sleeping clothes.
