AUSTIN (KXAN) -- On Friday, KXAN viewers began asking what they saw in the sky between 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Those viewers began sending in video of what appeared to be a fireball in the sky.The mysterious light stayed in the sky for several seconds with, what appeared to be an explosion during its travels. On social media the light was seen from East Texas to Dallas to right here in Central Texas. However, this one looked different.Evidence suggests it may be from the Space X Falcon 9 launch that happened in Florida at 7:01 p.m. EST. That launch brought it into an orbit that may have been visible from Texas. If you have any videos you would like to share, be sure to email them to [email protected].High school football: Hudson rolls New Richmond 35-13, wins Big Rivers title

NEW RICHMOND, Wis. — Five plays and about three minutes of game time was all it took for New Richmond’s perfect record this season to go by the wayside.Instead, rival Hudson took advantage of a couple of critical Tiger turnovers in a 35-13 win in a Big Rivers Conference championship tilt between two of the top teams in Western Wisconsin on Friday night at New Richmond High School. Both teams entered the night 6-0 in Big Rivers play. While explosive, high-scoring offenses have been the story for each club all season, it was the defenses that showed up early on a rainy, windy night. But after a scoreless first quarter, where each defense owned the line of scrimmage, Hudson secured a pair of turnovers and turned them into 15 quick points.Just over a minute into the second quarter, Hudson forced a New Richmond fumble and took over at the Tiger 44-yard line. On the very next play, junior receiver Tyler Lassard busted free on a post route and hauled in a perfect pass from senior quarterback...Women’s hockey: Abbey Murphy’s hat trick leads Gophers’ rout of St. Thomas at Xcel Energy Center

After losing 11 players to graduation, Minnesota women’s hockey coach Brad Frost considers his team a work in progress. Despite being ranked fourth in the country, the Gophers have a lot of goals that need to be replaced if they are going to make what has become an annual run at a national title.Friday afternoon at the Xcel Energy Center, Abbey Murphy provided a not-too-subtle reminder that not all of the Gophers’ world-class talent has moved on.Murphy, a member of the 2022 U.S. Olympic team who is coming off a 29-goal season, collected a hat trick as the Gophers pounded St. Thomas 8-0 in the WCHA opener for both teams. The redshirt junior right winger from Evergreen Park, Ill., has scored six goals in three games to help the Gophers start the season 3-0.The Gophers are counting on Murphy to raise the bar even higher in an already stellar career, and the early returns suggest she is prepared to do just that.“She’s just kind of taken on the load more significantly as she has in the p...St. Louis football coach shot by parent shares his comeback story

In Virginia, the City of Alexandria is looking into renaming six streets with ties to the confederacy. It’s part of a new proposed process by Mayor Justin Wilson to rename streets with Confederate references.“Our predecessors used street naming policies as a form of permanent protest against the burgeoning civil rights movement and growing political power for African-Americans. As a symbol, these honors persist today, honoring virulent racists, many of whom took up arms against our nation. These honors are not defensible and should be removed,” Wilson said in a statement announcing the street renaming initiative.Since then, 63 streets have been singled out, three of which will be chosen each year for renaming. The City Council Naming Committee said it determined the order of streets to be renamed “based on household and commercial impact as well as historical significance.”Wilson said that he believed it was the right move for the city to take, calling t...Latest news
