SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) - Aspiring clinical social workers can become licensed in the New Year even if they do not pass their licensure exam the first time. The law takes effect on Jan. 1. Aspiring social workers will still have to complete other requirements, like having a master's degree and 3,000 hours of clinical supervision before seeking licensure. The exam will also remain as a way to get a social work license. Christian McCaffrey won’t play Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, and neither will Ambry Thomas or Arik Armstead. That was about as specific as coach Kyle Shanahan got Monday when discussing who will play and who won’t when the 49ers host the Rams in their regular-season finale having already wrapped up the No. 1 seed, a first-round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.McCaffrey left in the second half with a calf injury, didn’t return, and called it “minor” in the post-game celebration after a 27-10 road win against the Washington Commanders.“We’ll keep him out this week,” Shanahan said. He later added McCaffrey is expected to be full-go for the 49ers’ first playoff game following the bye.“We’re real confident in that and it was good news,” Shanahan said. “Could have been a lot worse. “We’ll take care of him this week and hopefully he’ll get to go during our off week....

Sharks’ young defensemen could be facing a big test ahead

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 11:54:56 GMT

The San Jose Sharks overhauled their defense corps within the last two seasons, acquiring a handful of young blueliners they feel can be a part of the organization for years to come. Those defensemen might now be forced to take on some more responsibility if Mario Ferraro has to miss time with an upper-body injury.Ferraro, who leads all Sharks skaters in ice time, had to leave Sunday’s game with the Colorado Avalanche after he absorbed a shoulder-to-shoulder hit from forward Nathan MacKinnon midway through the first period. Ferraro appeared to be in considerable pain as he immediately headed toward the Sharks’ dressing room, missing the remainder of what turned into a 3-1 San Jose loss at Ball Arena in Denver.Sharks coach David Quinn did not have an update on Ferraro on Sunday night and it remained unclear whether the Toronto-born defenseman would be available for the team’s game Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings. The Sharks, beset by injuries all season, were off Monday and Ferr...

Investigators were still working Monday afternoon to determine whether it was caused by human error or a mechanical failure.None of the injuries were considered severe, Allison said. The crash snarled transit access between Lafayette and Orinda, while causing delays along nearby Highway 24 while emergency crews responded to the wreck. Yet officials also expressed relief that the derailment happened on a holiday morning when a fraction of the train’s normal commuters — which can number several hundred people — were on board.“...

DETROIT (AP) — Dan Campbell’s passion has been on display since the moment he was hired as coach of the Detroit Lions, famously saying at his opening news conference nearly three years ago that his teams would kick in teeth and bite kneecaps of opponents.Campbell has screamed with joy, and shed tears, after wins and losses. And he has never looked and sounded as fired up as he was on Monday.“ I’ve got controlled fury and I’m ready to go,” Campbell said.Roughly 36 hours after a disputed call at Dallas led to a loss that took away a shot at the top seed in the NFC, Campbell insisted he had moved on and said players would do the same as they prepare for the regular-season finale.“I’ve got pure octane right now,” Campbell said. “I woke up. I’m ready, so we’re moving forward.”Looking back was not part of Campbell’s plan at his weekly news conference. In an opening statement that lasted 2 minutes, 10 seconds, he did not address the negated 2-point conversion caught by offe...

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Mohamed Salah headed off to the Africa Cup of Nations on the back of a starring role for Liverpool in its 4-2 win over Newcastle that opened up a three-point lead in the English Premier League on Monday. An individual performance that started with his latest failure from the penalty spot ended with Salah scoring Liverpool’s first and last goals and having a hand in the other two for his team in a chaotic game in wet and wild conditions at Anfield. The league pauses for the FA Cup and then a winter break lasting much of the rest of January with Liverpool looking the team most likely to stop Manchester City winning an unprecedented fourth straight top-flight title. City was in third place, five points behind Liverpool — and two behind Aston Villa — with a game in hand.Salah could be missing until mid-February, depending on how far Egypt advances in the Africa Cup, and he could be the player to lead Liverpool to a record-tying 20th league championship.
