ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On Thursday, Dunkin' is celebrating the grand reopening of its restaurant at 1425 Washington Ave with free giveaways, merchandise, and a limited number of $20 gift cards. ST. LOUIS - A man appeared in federal court on Wednesday and admitted setting fire to his ex-girlfriend's home in St. Louis County while she and members of her family were asleep.Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Christopher Willis, 39, pleaded guilty to one count of maliciously damaging or destroying by means of fire.Willis told the court he entered his ex's home on Nero Drive on the morning of April 29, nearly six days after they broke up, went into the basement, and set fire to her clothes.The ex-girlfriend said the fire alarm woke her up and that she was able to safely evacuate the residence with her daughter and aunt.As part of a plea agreement, both prosecutors and Willis' lawyer agreed to recommend a five-year sentence to the judge. The family of a mother and daughter killed in a Lakewood apartment fire in 2022 is suing the apartment owner, property management company and two teenagers charged with starting the fire for wrongful death.Kathleen Payton, 31, and her 10-year-old daughter Jazmine Payton-Aguayo died in the Oct. 31 fire at Tiffany Square Apartments, which was started by two teenagers.Payton’s adoptive mother, Mary Jo Portales, and Jazmine’s father, Rogelio Aguayo, filed the lawsuit in Denver district court on Monday.The lawsuit provides new details about the fire at 935 Sheridan Blvd. that killed Payton and Jazmine and injured 10 others in the early hours of Oct. 31.A 12-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy were arrested for starting the fire and charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, arson and criminal mischief. A man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and two armed robbery charges in a 2021 carjacking spree and deadly shooting.Andrew Jacobs, 34, pleaded guilty in Arapahoe County on Friday to three charges and three violent crime sentence enhancements in the Nov. 10, 2021, death of Carlos Julio Albarracin, who was 34 at the time, according to online court documents.As part of the plea agreement, 60 other charges Jacobs faced were dismissed.
